Painting:  The Power of Subjective Abstraction

                  Origins of Abstraction II

 

 

This course is designed for painting students who wish to explore the physical and practical as well as conceptual aspects of abstract painting. Students will submerge themselves in the world of non-objective abstraction by developing an understanding of their own personal “language “ of form and it’s unique power of expression. Special attention will be given to the dynamics of composition as they apply to these subtle and subjective realms of sensation and the spirit. Processes of retention and elimination along with a focus on the essential and elemental qualities of matter will be included as part of our in class discussions. The works of Kandinsky, Malevich, Mondrian, Pollock, Frankenthaler, Rothko, Martin, and others will serve as guides through this in depth exploration.

All painting mediums and formats are welcome.
