Painting Intensive: Modernism and Mixed Media

August 17th - 21st, 2015

This intensive course is an immersion into materials, and a journey into alternative surfaces manipulated in ways that go way beyond traditional methods and means. The movements of “Dada” and “Arte Povera” have greatly influenced our explorations in modern art, freeing us to use burning, cutting, gluing, staining, found objects etc. as creative means in the realization of our formed intention. This has expanded our esthetic choices exponentially while also welcoming us to consider the whole gamut of surrounding objects and textures as expressive possibilities. These lessons began with Duchamp and culminate in contemporary art experimentations, many of which fuse our entire experiential world with the act of making art. Come join us, and bring all that “stuff” you’ve been saving to make “something” with.

All painting mediums and formats are welcome.

Painting Intensive: Artistic Voice/Artistic Vision: Painting in the 21st Century

June 8th - 12th, 2015

This intensive will provide an exceptional opportunity for artists to explore new territory and further develop their vision as painters in a focused and supportive environment. We will be emphasizing each student’s private development in the painting arena of his/her choice. Along with our ritual immersion into the activity of painting, students will be asked to consider their individual expression or voice and how it reveals itself in their body of work as a whole. We will discuss motive and intention, how the “personal” collides with the “universal”, and what it means to pursue artistic expression in this complex day and age.

This is a perfect time to break new ground and expand your understanding of your creative self. So bring your enthusiasm and fresh ideas. All subject matter and media are welcome.
